This course provides the student with an introduction to the importance and uses of evaluation for networked information services, resources, and systems. Networked information services and resources are those that are provided electronically via a networked environment.
The course will examine the conceptual basis for evaluation, a number of research methods and specific data collection techniques that can be used to assess the quality, impact, and outcomes of networked resources and services – emphasizing assessment in the public and governmental sectors. Attention will also be given to developing performance measures and statistics that can be used to describe and assess networked information services and resources. The course will also consider the “politics” of evaluation. (from the course syllabus)
